Hello, I'm Jules... but you might know me as Willow

I started out as a Marketing Graduate that never felt at home in the corporate world. With an arty background, I naturally gravitated to graphic design and photography to satisfy my creative sweet tooth. These days you'll mostly find me behind the camera or the computer editing beautiful images but I continue to do some freelance graphic design work. I have well over 20 years combined experience working in retail, marketing management, graphic design and photography. I also love to cook - it’s been a love of mine since I can remember and feeding people delicious food brings me joy.

Willow, incidentally, was my teenage nickname derived from my maiden name, Wilson. I laugh about it really, I'm a country girl so it's more of a regional Aussie okka slang "WILLOW!" rather than the pretty name it is given to baby girls today, but either way I love it.

Here's what I do...

Food photography is my specialty and a real passion for me, I love to cook and style beautiful food and beverage shots. My family groan about cold dinners while I shoot the food, but secretly they love it.

I love to tell a story with photos - be it a restaurant, a dish, a chef, patrons having a lovely time at a venue. I also love to shoot a portrait, nothing formal, that captures the spirit of a person. My marketing and design background has certainly helped shape me as a photographer as I know that using a useful shot can be as important as a beautiful one - does that make sense?

The Willow Story...

Willow Creative was started by me, Julie Haines in 2006. I went on maternity leave from a marketing management job and never went back. After working in marketing for both the retail and not-for-profit sectors for 10 years a more creative career path was definitely calling me. Having drawn and painted since I can remember I find using photography and design software an exciting creative outlet with the added satisfaction of helping other people develop their businesses. Willow was born the same year as my daughter and they've grown together.

Qualifications...

I have a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree from RMIT in Melbourne, where I graduated with Distinction in 1999, as well as a Certificate of Digital Design and various courses under my belt in photography and styling.

Blog…

I am loathe to be another ‘food blogger’ there’s already so many out there. But in an attempt to sort my images and document some recipes a website blog is a great platform. It also gives me an opportunity to highlight my work at restaurants and cafes, something I love to do. Some of these are paid shoots, others are just because I love the food and the light is just right. Enjoy…
